We will be showcasing the best work from general submissions, as well as, special features on photographers, image makers, collectors and fanatics of Leica cameras, rangefinders and or traditional photographic techniques, including pinholes, large and medium format film, alternative print processes and more.

Special thanks to the newest KDU Core Member Daniel Leeb for arranging a special KDU Sponsorship of the recent TEDxBrooklyn Conference. KDU Core Member Sara Blake produced two large scale original illustrations in celebration, while Phil Knott captured the day in reportage style.

This post is dedicated to skateboarding.  Since I was 14, skateboarding has been one of the most motivational and inspirational parts of my life — creatively, artistically, stylistically, and otherwise.  Here are some recent examples taken just from your typical day out skating with friends:

These are the animals without whom the world would have no sweaters.  Stay tuned for pics of the amazing fibers they sacrificed for me, and check back soon to see what those yarns have turned into!

This is what you do to a sheep before you sell him.

Baby alpaca wool is soft and insulative, and takes color beautifully. Superluxe.

This sheep is ready to be auctioned. He has just been cleaned up and his wool is like a perfect cloud. Which someone will then shave off and give to me.

This is a play on the idea of “trust.” The laughing/spotted hyena is often viewed as a treacherous scavenger, stealing prey from other predators. In the Mtwara Region of Tanzania, it is believed that a child born at night while a hyena is crying will likely grow up to be a thief. I thought that the juxtaposition of a seedy creature, such as the hyena, and the honorable KDU creates a dynamic image that provokes a question of who is trustworthy? The obvious answer is that you can indeed trust the KDU.
