MWM : Crystals & Lasers. Exhibition & Artwork Photos. My month in Paris, things seen and places been, behind the scenes in my painting laboratory, the mural, the awesome opening reception, and the 17 new canvas paintings.

I am very pleased with how the canvases turned out. A clear evolution from my Parallel Universe Series (June 2009 : Sao Paulo, Brazil) but still with the scrambled vision, hypercolors, and op-art zing. All I do is daydream about where to go next with this style. No Ceilings!

MWM : Crystals & Lasers
Since Upian Gallery (ROJO). Paris, France.
05.02.2010 – 12.03.2010 *SHOW OPENS THIS FRIDAY AT 6:00 PM

An ambitious creative spirit, MWM (Matt W. Moore) has traveled to Paris for one month to prepare, from scratch, for his first Paris Solo-Exhibition. He arrived with no art, no supplies, and no firm plan for this new series of canvas paintings. The ideas for the artworks have actualized while processing time spent absorbing French Culture, exploring this Mega-City, the vibrant colors, the exaggerated geometry, and the diverse architecture and fashion of Paris.

The “MWM : Crystals & Lasers” Series explores and celebrates the convergence of his dedication to various disciplines of design and fine art. The paintings were created entirely with spray paint, one of Matt’s favorite mediums. But the designs are very clean, and appear almost digital in their precise details and craft. An honest, analog attempt to achieve the same depth and abstract geometry of his digital “Vectorfunk” style. The goal with each work is to have the viewers eye fall into the piece and get lost in the optical illusions, trying to figure out what is up, down, left, and right. Welcome to the Future!

Running the Numbers

An American Self-Portrait Series
~chris jordan, Seattle, 2008

“Running the Numbers looks at contemporary American culture through the austere lens of statistics. Each image portrays a specific quantity of something . . . and so on. My hope is that images representing these quantities might have a different effect than the raw numbers alone, such as we find daily in articles and books. Statistics can feel abstract and anesthetizing, making it difficult to connect with and make meaning of [them].

This project visually examines these vast and bizarre measures of our society, in large intricately detailed prints assembled from thousands of smaller photographs. Employing themes such as the near versus the far, and the one versus the many, I hope to raise some questions about the roles and responsibilities we each play as individuals in a collective that is increasingly enormous, incomprehensible, and overwhelming.”

#3. “Who’s gonna eat my soup?”*

*This picture is inspired by Gnarls Barkley’s song “Who’s Gonna Save My Soul”.

I’ve been working on it about six months, from August 2009 til January 2010. The biggest challenge was to organize the process without getting lost in the details.

Initially I planned to finish this work in November 2009, but then I decided to use calligraphy with Blackletter type or Gothic scripts. I’ve spent most of the December on studying different Latin-based scripst used in Medieval Europe and trying them out. Luckily, it turned out to be an interesting and exciting task. Very soon I chose a technique that suited me best. ^^

Another Great project from NYC fashion designer, Alex Campaz

We are happy to present you with the S/S 2010 collection of a new unisex clothing label, Grapes and Snakes. Taking a distinct approach to cut and stitched tees by using a blend of provocative iconography from the 1970’s and patterned motifs, Grapes and Snakes plans to develop an aesthetic verging on the sensual and the modern with a minimalist touch.

The LAB (for installation + performance art), in association with SLAG Gallery, has been converted by Grimanesa Amorós into ”LA INCUBADORA”, which will be featuring “You Cannot Feel It…I Wish You Could” a sculpture installation arising out of her personal experiences during and immediately following her pregnancy with her daughter Shammiel. The installation explores the interplay between biology and society and particularly the concept of male pregnancy.

BTW, statistics have it that on the average, 25,000 people pass by this corner of Lexington Avenue and 47th Street each day.
