Text over image // Multi-layered // Mask

Another recent addition whilst working on a couple of mask related images. Was looking at ways to produce a chrome effect to sharpen the surface and give it some depth/dimension. Using a variety of mediums, this exploration is what I would see as part of a sticker set or a board graphic.

Inspired by Ukiyo-e & the transmission of tales.

…Should mock one up!

Rage . Fury . Intense / Mixed Media

Recent new piece that looks great on print, it is has a neat aesthetic to it from every angle.

I started using hand written words at the beginning of the year, so, this is a strong visual reference to most of my work now.
There is a simple system of arrangement and process to get the effect used here, which in terms of an identity development, is a good look.

Whilst colour is always a good challenge, and of course there is a need for it, some newer pieces are simple black & white.
My view is that there is still so much depth to discover between these two tones, yet colour is just as pleasing for colour specific visuals that warrant.

This works well. Oh, colour items on the way too.

InkFace / New Development / Mixed Media :

Here is the latest edition of artwork.

In a nutshell my own development using an array of mixed media, every tool I have is being used fully and cranked hard!

This has been a long time coming, so for me, it is a milestone reached. After a few discussions around the table, plenty of caffeine, days melding into nights and nose to grind. I have been looking through a vast selection of old work that to me, is just that, old. The only way to push past this kind of ‘block’ was to scrap some, keep some, build anew. Still the same one man show, but this time, more determined with a whole trunk of focus.

I am very aware that this point was reached well over a year ago, during this swift development, one of the main factors was by reading my personal journal posts and how slow and frustrating the process has been.

To quote the previous post, production time is now much swifter, paying much close attention to mediums used + file types to ensure size aspect & resolution stays exact.

Fully confident that this will develop much further as my own language as an Artist and Designer.

Snake Bite / Keystone Design Union / Self initiated example.

Evaluating some new communication pieces, also trying out new machine tools alongside pencil. Everything is printed to get an overall feel of any artwork. Nothing truly lives unless it is outside of the box.

The type is based on ‘Wicked Grit’. Being a fan of alternative fonts that are not widely used, it really was put to good use here.

The overall composition is as intended, an explosive force.

BUTCHERS OF BOURGEOIS - Pen, Pencil & Ink sketch time lapse. 1 minute 7 seconds – 676 frames.

Tatto flash inspired image that was specific for my first time lapse project set at 10 sec intervals.

Used here is a small wooden mock up frame for my camera/cell set at the perfect angle to get the close up shots.

Hope you enjoy the visuals here. Check out the short feature on the Toob.

Type.Face / Illustration / Colour print

Portrait & mixed Type. A project that is a personal challenge and one that will be ongoing as a small series.

I am interested in pulling away from the digital aesthetic with these prints and using analog as the main tool and last source to bring the image to life.

Mixed Message images…

Kodiak / Sketch / Inkwash + Digital

Recently digging in the crates for frame layouts. This one is detailed on my site in the image slider, not as a print.

The original idea was to work with metallic inks as a possibility. This seemed the way forward a few years back. Now, it is hardly cost effective on a small scale, and way too mechanised in the final finish. The only offer it would give to the image is an ultra modern / retro aesthetic.

Humans are complex by nature, prone to making simple tasks complicated, but it is the simple things that stay consistent by their very nature. So this is solely an environmental piece. Reason: Well, we live in a throw away, destructive society. I try to recycle everything possible, and am always in favour of experimenting with anything art related, but it has to come full circle. To show qualities in the image I used charcoal, recycled inks, printer ink & 100% environmentally friendly colour processed recycled paper.

Type.Face / Illustration / Colour print

Portrait & mixed Type is the outline for this project, in a layout that worked well as a composition of colour / content.

A project that is a personal challenge and one that will be ongoing as a small series.

Without giving away to much detail of the specific background to the series, it is to have a bolder message as the overall theme.

The above image was a case study that started in digital and progressed to be more analog in practice with the result being a very good healthy balance of the two combined.

Camera, Ink & Type blended to make this small offering :

Not entirely new work, more of a small cache of explorations making their way to the top of the pile.

The images used were of urban areas that had been disregarded and damaged by vandalism and continued weathering and had been stripped of colour. The images were of a large electric mains supply, a flyover, and a telephone box.

The focus was on how people choose to continue to damage surroundings yet consider these places to be an ultimate refuge or sanctuary. A cause and effect, vicious cycle scenario from an abstract or even instinctual perspective.

This entry has been amended after some constructive criticism offered about the write up, so thanks a million!

Koi 3Koi 2Koi 1Recent Illustration. After studying some personal written and documented examinations of Japanese woodblock printing and calligraphy, it was about time to get busy with a mix of Traditional & Digital work. The aim of the project was to create a smooth digital illustration incorporating the Edo period theme, a bold image, with a hand textured background using inks. Finished off with individual scales to offer some dimension and depth to bring the image to life.
