Rage . Fury . Intense / Mixed Media

Recent new piece that looks great on print, it is has a neat aesthetic to it from every angle.

I started using hand written words at the beginning of the year, so, this is a strong visual reference to most of my work now.
There is a simple system of arrangement and process to get the effect used here, which in terms of an identity development, is a good look.

Whilst colour is always a good challenge, and of course there is a need for it, some newer pieces are simple black & white.
My view is that there is still so much depth to discover between these two tones, yet colour is just as pleasing for colour specific visuals that warrant.

This works well. Oh, colour items on the way too.

‘Crack Whips Ride Hard’ / Mixed Media

This is an old type piece, rather than scrap it, I thought the you may like it.

Completed in three colours, black on white has more impact. Reviewing various + & – of using mixed media.

This is only a reference piece that has been printed, although it looks pretty good on screen.

InkFace / New Development / Mixed Media :

Here is the latest edition of artwork.

In a nutshell my own development using an array of mixed media, every tool I have is being used fully and cranked hard!

This has been a long time coming, so for me, it is a milestone reached. After a few discussions around the table, plenty of caffeine, days melding into nights and nose to grind. I have been looking through a vast selection of old work that to me, is just that, old. The only way to push past this kind of ‘block’ was to scrap some, keep some, build anew. Still the same one man show, but this time, more determined with a whole trunk of focus.

I am very aware that this point was reached well over a year ago, during this swift development, one of the main factors was by reading my personal journal posts and how slow and frustrating the process has been.

To quote the previous post, production time is now much swifter, paying much close attention to mediums used + file types to ensure size aspect & resolution stays exact.

Fully confident that this will develop much further as my own language as an Artist and Designer.

‘Bohemian Vintage’ / Art Direction & Photography – session 1

This is a selection of a recent Art Direction & Photography with my good friend & professional model Alice la Vie.

Having a massive interest in photography, and only recently started to pursue a more varied selection and style to my work worthy of serious dedicated art direction. Point & shoot right?

There has been so much amazing feedback to my photography, this together with wanting to steer clear of Architecture as the main field of study, so decided to arrange a couple of photoshoots. The female form is the next logical step from architecture, with a good study of light and shadow, but colour rather than black & white is a huge challenge for me.

Alice is great to work with, we get on very well, she is also an alternative model, more to the point she is highly adaptable at pushing her own creativity, and certainly not a flake like many other ladies that I have come across. She is well aware of her limitations and knows how to push herself to achieve results. On the day we both worked super hard gathering as much variation to our styles as possible, throwing around a good amount of ideas and inspired themes. This selection of clothing ( models own ) gave me a good opportunity to mix up the colour & blend a vintage lighting style into the composition. Here you can also see a good selection of prints chosen from this particular photo session as further aesthetic communication. Rather than just taking random shots, there was some format involved in producing high quality images for a purpose.

On the day we completed 3 strong visual sessions / themes + a hundred or so test shots & deletions.
My conclusion is that the photography part was easy, with a little direction. Now, if you are working as a team, it is essential to communicate, this allows entire creative freedom with super positive results.

Heat Sink/Stock/Print

The local efforts for Marine Biology are second to none. This includes a vast regeneration and breeding program for small organisms and aquatics, including the coelenterate and more notably, the Jelly Fish.
It really is an amazing life form that boasts an estimated species habitation here of some 600 million years or so. It has a body structure of 95% water, contains massive amounts of protein and can reproduce both sexually and asexually. The way that the Jelly Fish processes information is still today a complete mystery. We can only speculate, as we do at every observation.

‘TMRWTODAY is the active media experience for ENK/TMRW. TMRWTODAY exists to amplify the ideas and actions used to create a progressive future for fashion.’

A hand drawn & brush pen type was used in the initial stages to create this graphic. Honoured to be given the opportunity to offer my first vision toward the future of fashion. Boom!

Photography / Print / Paper / Color test.

Lucky shots? Maybe. Entirely accidental. What interested me here is the months of paper tests.

In my mind, there is a need to test every available piece of equipment or resource to its fullest and crank what you can out of it.

This is standard inkjet printing on quality papers.

Type.Face / Illustration / Colour print

Portrait & mixed Type. A project that is a personal challenge and one that will be ongoing as a small series.

I am interested in pulling away from the digital aesthetic with these prints and using analog as the main tool and last source to bring the image to life.

‘Lacerate Media’ / Texture / Art

As a reflection of last months site journal post, the 3 images here are the test pieces.

They are mixed method pieces, with the final image being the preferred quality of finish.

As design is a test of ability, the main grind is in finding the easiest and most effective way to do something that is usually a complicated process. My concern for when the storefront is live is that there are only new works available and not something that has been generally ripped off or repeated by other artists previously. The third Razors edge is the first store instalment, using my own stock image and elements. Printing is currently external, although seeking to upscale asap and progress with prints for solo shows. Editorial is of great interest, so pushing to learn more in this area also.

‘Don’t need NO Devil dust’ / Ian Brown / Mixed method / Experimental Portfolio

In my opinion one of the greatest Great British singer-songwriters of all time.

Ok, so many may disagree. Whatever. This guy has proved himself to be one of the most influential artists in recent years. From a true working class family, to the lead vocalist of  The Stone Roses, he has a celebrated history of perfect lyrics and bold collaborations ( personal artistic favs : UNKLE  / ADIDAS / BAPE ) which has seen him rise to the top of the ranks. This does not come easy. A solid solo career setting himself aside from the usual suspects in terms of visual art & video appeal, content instruments, tight, challenging lyrics and awesome depth of character has earned him the aforementioned status.

Having seen him perform, I would say he offers a wise expression as opposed to glitter ball stage gimmicks. This gives him an awesome presence. And of course he is renowned for saying that he needs ‘no devil dust’ for his confidence. Mr Brown, a true performer, I salute you.
