King’s Folly, a surreal object done for http://www.antianti.us
Theme – polarity, Statement – exploitation.
The statement of the object is partially based on the novel of Joris-Karl Huysmans
– “À rebours”, mainly on the passage about gems encrusted tortoise.
“A Rebours defines the decadent spirit as one of simulation-that the idea of a thing is purer-and therefore more desirable-than the thing itsself. This is best illustrated in one of the most famous chapters where, after a lengthy reverie into the merits of various gemstones, Des Esseintes decides that the best way to display his favorite jewels would be to have them set into the shell of a living tortoise. The jeweler finally returns with the encrusted tortoise, which takes about two steps and dies from the immense weight of the stones. The entire decadent movement was imbibed with this sense of embellishing and improving the natural, and no single book encapsulates the decadent/symbolist aesthetic like A Rebours.”

I was working on this personal project – Series of animal portraits. Portrait for centuries has been representation of an object – most often person. Animals in this series are portrayed in a sad mood to show the negative impact of humans mistreating them.

COLORS !

Colors ! is a personal experiment where 3 dimensional elements inserted in analog photographies.
The colors of the picture in the background is captured by these elements.
The grain gives a deeper personality to the image which seems to be shot in the early 80′.

Recently digging in the crates for frame layouts. This one is detailed on my site in the image slider, not as a print.
The original idea was to work with metallic inks as a possibility. This seemed the way forward a few years back. Now, it is hardly cost effective on a small scale, and way too mechanised in the final finish. The only offer it would give to the image is an ultra modern / retro aesthetic.
Humans are complex by nature, prone to making simple tasks complicated, but it is the simple things that stay consistent by their very nature. So this is solely an environmental piece. Reason: Well, we live in a throw away, destructive society. I try to recycle everything possible, and am always in favour of experimenting with anything art related, but it has to come full circle. To show qualities in the image I used charcoal, recycled inks, printer ink & 100% environmentally friendly colour processed recycled paper.
Hello everyone, thought it was about time I updated my blog with some new-ish work. This here was a project I created for Intrinsic Nature’s 11th Experiment. I hope you like it and check out the exhibition here.
