‘ Invasionism ‘ : City Museum & Art Gallery, Plymouth.

The Militant approach was put on the shelf for this visit. The opportunity to talk with visitors about the valuable historic importance of collectable works of art was a blast. Arriving at the museum early with a militant attitude, it soon wore off when I was blown away by the amount of fine art and historic items on display within the nine internal galleries. From fabric designs, to carvings and early forms of currency, japanese tsuba, archeological and anthropological interests and a huge maritime display area. There was a cabinet for showing silverware and church plates, enamel tile painting, contemporary glass designs and the Porcelain industry history of William Cookworthy.

After venturing through the natural history collection of organic detail, fossils, documents, sketches and skeletal structures, I then moved up a floor and absorbed the Cottonian collection. A vast collection of engravings and old master drawings, around seven thousand fine art prints on rotated display, large print volumes including the medieval Book of Hours.

Three things were prominent in every manner of work within the museum walls : life is art, expression is organic, and vision is boundless.

The final part of a two hour visit included initiating conversation with security and visitors out of respect, about the importance of art history and how it fits into and influences the modern era and thought, discussing media and how it plays a part in giving prominence to the past, where art sits in the future and the determination of the artist and craft… And of course the eventual slap boxing of KDU ‘Invasionism’ at key areas of interest within the Museum.

After several years in hibernation, The KDU is finally relaunching its SVSV fashion line to the general market.

The full collection, web store and physical Brooklyn boutique will launch in May.

To celebrate the upcoming launch, we have decided to release a special collaboration between SVSV and KDU founder, David Gensler and LA based KDU member, Victor Antonio.

“Traveling the world over the past two years inspired me to relaunch the brand. Seeing Victor’s work inspired me to begin shooting my own photography again and be more involved in the day to day process of art and writing. I founded the KDU with my own designs and art and it is time to return, bringing back my own vision.” – David Gensler

Victor and I collaborated for some time playing with various critical theories, philosophies, poetry and prose that we found represented the DNA of what we wanted to convey in this new collection and body of work.

“The entire SVSV brand has always been more about art than fashion and I think this reaffirms that.” – David Gensler

VOTE for Minga in WMC

Here’s the skinny – i need your help and the best part is it’s super easy! All i need you to do to show support is click the image above or goto this link -  click me – and just click “vote” on the image above or the one titled Mingadigm (that’s me?!) to vote for my inclusion in this exhibition described below! super simple, it helps the process if while you’re voting you are currently logged out of facebook, doesn’t like that for some reason. 1 click is fantastic, but in order to win it’s all about the numbers; so if you’d be so kind as to click “vote” once a day everyday until voting closes,  you’d be completely awesome. thanks for the help. regards minga

Reykjavik Fashion Festival (RFF) has begun. A project dreamt partly up by Nikita’s GM Runar Omarsson and put into action for the first time in 2010.

“In recent years, the creative industries in Iceland have been flourishing. The local market has become a melting pot of exciting new creative enterprises, with individuals seeking to expand their businesses overseas. However despite this desire, these businesses have often been unable to fulfill their potential as a result of limited marketing budgets and the lack of a common creative vehicle. Reykjavik Fashion Festival seeks to provide the opportunity to channel Iceland’s creative energy into a single event, both for the local Icelandic audience as well as an international audience. United by a common passion for Iceland and it’s unique take on fashion, design and music, Iceland’s foremost creative business leaders seek to champion the talent that makes the country so unique. Reykjavik Fashion Festival will see an exciting mixture of fashion, design and music at venues around the city.” – http://www.rff.is/

This year marks the second annual Reykjavik Fashion Festival and is taking place until 3rd April 2011. A real time live video and photo blog of the RFF 2011 is happening and you can follow people, fashion and events contributed to by everyone there via this link – http://liveproject.is/

Over in the UK, The Addict Clothing Team are proud to be part of the KDU network. It’s an exciting time and we look forward to show casing our upcoming designs, projects and collaborations.

We started life way back in 1996, over that time we’ve developed into a brand with our own signature style of streetwear, blending casual wear with the performance, quality and functionality of high spec outerwear. Part of what we are today is down to the people we’ve met and work with along the way. We look forward to connecting with all those within the KDU family
