Over at Denham we’re excited to be retaining our small-team approach to all aspects of design with only 4-5 creatives involved in everything we do. Brand communication headed-up by Art Director Ali Kirby is conceived by the crew here in-house in order to keep it close to the heart of our overall creative process. Doing things our way allows us to be more direct, more transparent and more immediate. -Sometimes the personal approach probably also causes us to be maddeningly arcane and overly circumscribe but we trust in our actual consumers to stick with us ‘cuz our hearts, at least, are usually in the right place. We’re trying to share our stuff with people, not demographics.
So when we learned that our recently launched WEBSITE was to be featured in the 2010 CREATIVE REVIEW ANNUAL, we were seriously chuffed. Particularly when it coincided nearly perfectly with the launch of our E-COM environment as well. Credit should be rightly shared with Driebit in Amsterdam for their expert technical partnership.
The site is organized like Post-It Notes on a refrigerator door, or like books faced forward on a book-stand. New books are added all the time. Visitors can scan the titles, pull one down because they’re attracted to the cover and review the story it reveals. Some stories are long, some short, some deep, some silly. They focus on catogories like by the Seasonal Collection, the Denham Garment Library, Studio & Stores, Press Reports & the birth of the Cutter´s Council. Designed in time with no beginning nor end, it’s a decorated blog. A tailor-made homepage. We hope to fascinate but are equally prepared to frustrate.
I was just featured / interviewed for the ‘2010 Creative Hotlist’ issue of Digital Artist Magazine – with a couple spreads showcasing some of my most well known works.
Hello good people of the KDU and beyond. Thank you for graciously accepting me to join the ranks and I look forward to contributing/interacting with the talent that lies among the Keystone Design Union.
I’d like to present the official video for the Soundset Festival of 2010, featuring some of the best independent hip hop around. This is a collaboration between Gregory Hubacek (gregoryhubacek.com) and myself. We were asked to create the promotional video for the 2010 Soundset Festival, an event that is held annually by Rhymesayers Entertainment in Minneapolis, Minnesota. All original animation, motion graphics, design, and art direction. If you’re in the Midwestern United States, I would definitely recommend checking this out.
While in Hawaii – I was treated to a day of fishing with a good friend and world famous artist Kehinde Wiley.
We went out about 17 miles on a what looked like a big boat in the harbor… then the big waves came… and BOOM!!!
I have never been so sick in my life!!! Kehinde was smart enough to take some sea sickness pills… I was bragging about how I grew up on a boat in the Chesapeake bay…
and man did that come back to haunt me. Note to self… a bay and the middle of the Pacific Ocean are NOT THE SAME THING!!! Regardless of the sea sickness the excellent crew lead my captain Scotty found each of us one Mahi Mahi to catch. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahi-mahi
Later that night, Kehinde found a restaurant that perfectly prepared our catch from the day…
Even a bad day fishing is better than a great day at work…!!!
We just spent a week in Hawaii on a top secret mission with Hennessy. More to come in Fall…
but for now, I must confess, Hawaii is the Sh*t!! Lava beaches and ocean blow holes, snorkeling in fish tanks, ice blue waters, exotic birds and mongooses, and a very pregnant woman and two tiny, fearless ocean dogs!!
Chris Bevans, Phil Knott and Nick Marshall from Hennessy France
I was recently in Hawaii on business with Hennessy. I had a great experience and can’t really talk about it quite yet…
One amazing part was our first morning – myself and Phil Knott walked to a Starbucks for a morning coffee. There was a rainbow over the beach in Waikiki and about two dozen small birds that ate directly from your hand. Could you imagine if all the pigeons in Brooklyn ate from your hands?
I just finished my first promo piece for The KDU.
